Animism – Dead Drop – Vancouver, BC

Game: Animism
Type: Dead Drop
Location: Vancouver Public Library, Vancouver, BC
Date: Dropped September 7, 2010
Status: Concluded

The players of Animism: The Sacred Sites have discovered a dead drop that was hinted at a character’s blog:

There is faint text at the bottom right that says:
“Remember our deal…
VPL
BUS 333.38 F86m
HB”
I believe “VPL” is Vancouver Public Library, “BUS” is the business section, and 333.38 F86m is a call out number for a book.

Note: The VPL catalog is undergoing maintenance until 11am EDT so I am unable to get specific information about the book at this time. I’ll update with more information after the catalog is back online.

Update: It figures that the one time I will ever need to use the VPL card catalog, it ends up being down most of the day. The book is Model subdivision regulations : text and commentary by Robert H. Freilich and Peter S. Levi.

UF member Shizzire has contacted the library, was told that there is a note inside the book, and currently has it on hold at the counter. You can send them a PM on Unfiction to get instructions on how to get the book/note (or maybe just be really nice to the librarian and ask them just to let you see the note).

Flash Mob – The Sect Is Here – Vancouver, BC

Game: The Sect Is Here
Type: Flash Mob
Location: Vancouver Art Gallery (on Granville between Hornby and Howe), Vancouver, BC
Date: September 28, 2009 at 2pm
Status: Concluded

There is a Flash Mob scheduled for today in support of the ARG The Sect Is Here for the upcoming webseries Riese. The event will be at 2pm, September 28 at the Vancouver Art Gallery, located on Granville between Hornby and Howe.

The flash mob will be protesting the group called The Sect, so it is asked that all participants dress accordingly.

  • All black with NO LOGOS OR BRANDS.
  • Something to hide their face (mask, bandana, scarves, hoods, t-shirts, etc.).
  • In addition, participants are encouraged to bring signs, banners, etc. with NO profanity.

Please keep in mind that this is a fake protest, so remember to be respectful of your location. Littering, unruly behavior or general asshattedness to authority are not things that will be smiled upon, so please behave.

Something in the Sea – Live Event

Game: Something in the Sea
Type: Live Event
Location: Australia / Germany / Italy / Netherlands / France / England / Spain / Long Island / Vancouver / Santa Monica
Date: August 8, 2009
Status: Concluded

Something in the Sea, the campaign for BioShock2, wants everyone to go to one of 10 beaches around the world this Saturday morning. Two memos and a map have appeared on SomethingInTheSea.com that tell when and where something will be happening this Saturday.

As far as I can determine, these are the coordinates – in the order of sunrise on August 8th. According to what I have learned, the tides may carry in valuable information at approx. sunrise at these times.

6:41 AM Bondi Beach (Sydney, Australia) 33° 53′S 151° 16′E
5:43 AM Travemunde (Baltic Beach – Lubeck, Germany) 53° 57′N 10° 52′E
6:03 AM Rimini Beach (Italy) 44° 4′N 12° 34′E
6:15 AM Scheveningen Beach (The Hague, Netherlands) 52° 7′N 4° 17′E
6:28 AM Bay of Angels (Nice, France) 43° 41′N 7° 15′E
5:37 AM Brighton Beach (England) 50° 49′N 0° 8′W
6:54 AM Barceloneta Beach (Spain) 41° 22′N 2° 11′E
5:58 AM Jones Beach (New York, U.S.) 40° 35′N 73° 30′W
5:55 AM Kitsilano Beach (Vancouver, Can.) 49° 16′N 123° 9′W
6:11 AM Santa Monica (California, U.S.) 34° 0′N 118° 29′W

The buzz in the Unfiction forums seems to be that there will be swag to be had at the locations, along with possible character meets, so you should have a pretty good time if you go, despite it occurring way to early in the morning. If you can, take pictures and/or video of what happens so that the people who are unable to go can live vicariously through you. And if you’re attending the Jones Beach event, say hi to my friend Siege (if he goes, that is).

Intimation – GPS Mission – Vancouver, St. Louis, NYC

Game: Intimation
Type: GPS Mission
Location: Vancouver, BC / St. Louis, MO / New York City, NY
Date: Posted July 31, 2009
Status: Incomplete

According to an email from drizjr, Intimation is nearing its endgame and has four new GPS missions for people to play. The new missions are marked with a pignose smiley :@]

The LA mission has been completed, but the Vancouver, St. Louis and NYC missions still need someone to run through them and get the information. As you run through the missions, you will be looking for waypoints tagged with the pignose smiley. These are where you may find a skull ID number (e.g. M-R0IJ1260853U0A74429N). You must copy down this number as this is what will unlock the new skull. Once you have the skull ID number (current speculation is one new skull for each mission) you can post it to the Unfiction thread where the players can access it.

Krystyn has posted about her experience with the new mission, so if you are thinking about going on one, please read about what to expect. Her post about the first mission she ran also has some excellent tips about completing the GPS Missions. Krystyn also invites anyone going on a mission to join the #intimation chat room so that players can give live help if needed.

New sets of GPS Missions have gone up for the Intimation game. So far, only the Central Park mission has been completely successful in gathering all the URLs needed to unlock new game content.

In order to complete GPS missions, you need a phone with an internal GPS device or an external GPS device (Bluetooth “GPS mouse”). Nokia Symbian or Windows Mobile PPC works best. Register at GPS Mobile, download the software onto your phone, and then head out to the mission sites.

Each checkpoint you arrive at reveals a message that has a web address (Checkpoint x/n . http://thewaytheirworldended.com/…’) The address is only shown once, so be ready to copy it down so you won’t forget. Visiting the website unlocks a piece for the game.
